Periodical Gazette

This blog is dedicated to both fiction and non-fiction. My personal favorites in fiction are mainly contemporary romance, suspense thriller,  historical fiction and YA then in non-fiction, I love to review inspirational, self-improvement and finance related books. I review outside these genres also because of the fact I love to read.

Turning Hurts Into Halos

Turning Hurts Into Halos - Robert H. Schuller This book is a real eye opener because at one point we all are somehow hurt by people we daily encounter in our lives. This book helps to ask ourselves how deep our hurts are and how it can be solved. Dr.Schuller's stories about real people who have encountered most unimagineable hurts than us and his own hurt helps to engage with the book very intensely. My favourite hurt story is Jeff's.It helped me understand how to make friend with hurt

Cry Wolf

Cry Wolf - Tami Hoag I really don't have any words to describe this gripping novel. This is my second novel by Tami Hoag. But unlike the first one, the suspense of the serial killer at the end of this novel was more than shocking.I never expected it.The character Savannah intrigued me so much and she gained my sympathy throughout the book.

Midnight's Children

Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie I was not even halfway through when i gave up reading this novel.I got really fed up, annoyed and lost all my patience. This doesn't mean the novel was very bad it was because Salman Rusdie's way of writing was very high(????) that i had to read it twice to understand the characters and the story beneath it.I gave 5 stars for his unique way of writing because he has made it sure that the readers doesn't know what they were really reading. It was a surprise to me why this novel got Booker-prize award. The enthusiasm that was there before reading the book was totally spoiled after reading.

What Mother Teresa Taught Me

What Mother Teresa Taught Me - Maryanne Raphael Is there anyone who doesn't love Mother Teresa? We all know Mother Teresa saved many lives but only few people know she could not save her own mother and sister who were prisoners in Albania. It is no wonder she is called the mother of the world. It is not only the author, even i was taught by her throughout this book.Though i've read many articles about mother Teresa, this book is so special to me.This book tells all the details about her family, her friends, her coworkers, her living, her achievements, her love for the poor and sick, etc.

Missing Pieces

Missing Pieces - Joy Fielding There is so many suspense in this novel. It has the right elements of everything, like family problems, secret love, crazy siblings, and many more. This novel has become one of my favorites.

The Crazy Algorithm of Love

The Crazy Algorithm of Love - Rajrupa Gupta I received this book through goodreads giveaway. This was my third Indian novel and i liked this most bcoz the story plot was very new and different from other novels i've read.I loved Mouni and Sam.They were a lovely couple. Ritu and Tarun were great friends to have for a lifetime. But after reading the second half, i felt like Mouni was not the best match for Sam.She doubted him very often. It was always Sam who had to give up and surrender to her.She was also egoistic, jealous when Sam was around with Sarah and before knowing Rebecca. But i loved the fact whenever Mouni needed him he was there. When Sam told her not to accept Patrick's offer, she doesn't agree and broke up with Sam.But after she learnt Patrick was a fraudulent person who stole Sam's company project, she realised what she had done. Then she along with Tarun and Binny made up a plan to bring Patrick's true identity into limelight which ended up in his suicide. She was also sued by the company for hacking.Again she ran for help but to Sam's father. But finally she said she was sorry.Sam forgave her, proposed to her two things-to be his partner in his own company and also his life for which she agreed happily. Then after five years she became a more self-confident and responsible person with that the novel ended.Over all,the story felt very fresh and real.I enjoyed very much reading this novel.

The Closers (Harry Bosch Series #11)

The Closers - Michael Connelly Its a great suspense thriller,i found very hard to put down.I enjoyed so much reading. This novel is about a case that happened before 17 years. An unsolved murder mystery revolving a 16 year old girl who was brutally murdered back then and now it is reopened and assigned to detective Bosch. It is up to him to solve the case and put the culprits in jail.

Exit Wounds

Exit Wounds - J.A. Jance Exit wounds is a very gripping, sometimes appalling novel. The real suspense was when it is found that the victim was the true murderer. Overall, Its a very sensational novel.

Desperate Measures

Desperate Measures - Fern Michaels A very light, beautifully written novel.Everything in the novel sounds quite real. How come Pete Sorenson was the only one unaware of his best friend Annie loving him back when others are hundred percent sure of their love.I loved reading the second half than the first half.

Dark Paradise

Dark Paradise - Tami Hoag The novel is about Marilee Jennings, a court reporter who inherits the property of her friend Liz MacAdam after she was murdered.Liz knows she is going to be murdered. So she puts her friend Marilee's name as nominee even before her death. There is more love, hurt and betrayal that wasn't very engaging. The story is not well centered on Liz's death. There is much story going on between Marilee Jennings and her lover JD rather than finding a clue about her friend's death.Besides that, the novel was very entertaining.

The Saint, The Surfer and The CEO: A Remarkable Story About Living Your Heart's Desires

The Saint, Surfer, and CEO - Robin S. Sharma This book is amazing. It has the ability to change a life into their best life.Inside the book, we learn about a young man named Jack who has the opportunity to meet his three teachers, father mike, surfer Moe,and finally CEO,Tess who have answers to the final questions his father told him about.Though the book seems very small,it has so much valuable information into it.This book is worth a readfor anyone who wants to live a happy and healthy life.

How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be: The 25 Principles of Success

How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be: The 25 Principles of Success - Jack Canfield Usually I read novels and magazines.I saw this book in my father's shelf. As soon as I saw the title of the book I grabbed it to read as the title was very attractive because I was totally confused about what I’m going to do as this is my final semester in college whether to opt for higher studies or a job.I found this book as a solution. The success principles as told by Jack Canfield is very very easy to follow by all and is written in a simple language. There are lots of real life success stories of celebrities from different fields such as sports, marketing,tv,etc which I found it very useful.

The Almond Tree

The Almond Tree - Michelle Cohen Corasanti I won this book in good-reads givaway.I was glad that i received such a wonderful book. When i first started reading the first 40 pages, i really got bored with the book bcoz of too many confusing characters. But after reading more and more pages i liked the book so much that I couldn't keep it down.Ichmad is the main character in the book.My favourite supporting characters in the book are Baba, teacher Mohammad and Professor Sharon. If there wasn't any Teacher Mohommad intervention, Ichmad never would've thought about college. He would've become like his brothers struggling through life. Then there is prof.sharon who hated him first but later he became Ichmad's best friend. My favourite lines in the book is when Abu Ichmad loses control over prof sharon's false accusation."Did Hitler and the Nazis like the Jews?who liked the Jews?No one liked the Jews, but you fought back, even when everyone around you was trying to exterminate you.we Palestinians are like Jews".There are many such quotes which i like in the book.I just added it in good-reads "my quotes".Then there there is love that doesn't last.I loved the way the book ended.I loved the friendship between Nora and Ichmad. This book is like an autobiography of a great person who raised in life after many hardships.

Silk and Stone

Silk and Stone - Deborah Smith It's a well-written novel but I didn't find it very interesting to read when I compared it to Deborah Smith's "A place to call home".When the latter was all about true love and family bonding, "silk and stone" is more about revenge in the family

A Place to Call Home

A Place to Call Home - Deborah Smith I brought this novel from my college library .The moment i started reading this novel i couldn't keep it down.i almost finished reading this novel within 4-5 hrs.the love between Roan and Claire is so real and heartwarming .reason behind why Roan did't meet Claire for 20yrs was logical. For me the first half was more appealing than the second.

The Girls' Life Big Book Of Short Stories

The Girls' Life Big Book Of Short Stories - Karen Bokram An outstanding & an excellent book to be read by middle graders. This book is a collection of short stories that deals with real issues relating to all teenage girls.Three of the stories are written by girls aged between 11 to 15 which happens to be the highlight of the book.I bought this book when i was in high school.I enjoyed this book so much.I reread the stories for atleast 10 times.
